Most traffic rules in Spain are not significantly different from those in other countries. But there are a few differences, even at the permitted speed on the roads.

Speed limits in Spain

Normally, within locations and cities the speed limit is 50km/h. On narrower country roads may be driven 90km/h, if the highway is well developed (with a shoulder of at least 1.50 meters) also 100km/h. On highways, the maximum speed is 120 kilometers per hour. The maximum speed is always indicated by signs. Motorhomes and lorries are allowed to drive 90 km/h on motorways, 80 on developed highways and 70 on narrow highways.

Exceeding the speed limit

The driving style of the Spaniards is often more hot-blooded than that of the German and English drivers. But do not let that seduce you to drive fast, violations will be penalized accordingly. The penalties range from fines of 100 € to disqualification from driving. (The foreign driver’s license can not be confiscated, it is only possible that a driving ban in Spain is granted to the person concerned)

Reduction in fines

In case of immediate payment or payment within 20 days you will receive a discount of 50%. In this case, however, you waive any right of opposition, that means that the “procedure” is finished immediately, any points are deducted directly.
